At the SICA Annual Meeting in April our speaker, Roger Wendlick, generously gave away wapato bulbs. If you took some of these bulbs home, please do not plant them in open waterways. They are from the store Uwajimaya and are probably not quite the same plant as our native wapato. We don’t want to take the chance of having a non-native version taking hold and crowding out the native plants. Eat them and enjoy them, or plant them in a backyard pool that is never hydrologically connected to any other surface water. Please share this information with anyone who might have some of these bulbs.
